Teaching

The last 3 weeks I have finally had the chance to work in the classroom. My lifespan class has been meeting at Aldo School in Green Bay where we have been paired up with a 5th grader. So far it has been an awesome experience.

My child’s name is Tashya & the girl loves to talk. My Big Brother Big Sister kid, Jason, is really quiet so Tashya is far less challenging. For instance, this week she brought her picture albums & told story after story (A half hour alone about a hamster.). She even brought in a camera & we got our pic taken together. Outside of a little ribbing from my classmates, it was a great feeling to know you are making a positive impact on a kid’s life.

The more I work in the classroom, the more I realize that I have chosen the correct career path. Every time you see that light click on in a kids head, it is an awesome feeling. Next semester is going to be extremely awesome. It includes my 1st classroom observation & even some student teaching. That will be the real test, how comfortable I am speaking in front of a class & getting across my lessons. We also begin creating our professional resume. It is finally beginning to hit me how close I am to accomplishing my goal of being a teacher. At the end of this semester, I am a little over half way home. In any event, it should be fun.
