Review: Hits Vol. 2: Reflected

Tim McGraw is at it again with an amazing greatest hits disc that included some songs I didn’t necessarily know would be on it. I almost feel like he might retire or something because he seems to be leaving a lot for a second greatest hits compilation. Coupled with the tour he is on with his wife…who knows, maybe this is the end. Anyway….I am really excited for the new CD. With Miah’s help I pirated a couple of the new songs of his website. If anyone wants them, just ask for the download. Anyway…I’ll briefly break down each song, what I think…& send you on your way…

1. Live Like You Were Dying

This is one of those songs I’ll always remember where iw as when I 1st heard it. It has a lot of personal meaning to me I won’t get into, but needless to say I love the song.

2. My Old Friend

Awesome, awesome song. After almost 2 years I still play this beast just about every night. It is beautifully written. This song tops even Live Like on the last disc.

3. Like We Never Loved At All with Faith Hill

Hits 2 starts of with 3 just incredible songs. Like We was released on Faith’s latest CD & I hit the floor the 1st time I heard it. It is just incredible. The video for the song is equally as powerful. If you have ever been through a breakup & run into that person a little later, this song conveys every emotion. I have no idea how this song didn’t hit #1 & stay there for about 3 months. This song hasn’t left my playlist in 6 months.

4. The Cowboy In Me

Cowboy In Me is a great tune off the Set This Circus Down disc. I went to see Tim in Minneapolis a couple years ago & it turned out to be the best show I have ever seen. In any event, this was the 1st song for his encore. He came up in the middle of the crowd & then walked through the crowd back to the stage(He even jacked a guy in the face who tried taking his hat.) That is what I always associate this song with.

5. When The Stars Go Blue

This is one of the songs I pirated off his site…It instantly hit me & reminds me a lot of his Tiny Dancer cover… I actually found itself is a cover…The words flow so beautifully…Where do you go when you're lonely/Where do you go when you're blue/Where do you go when you're lonely/I'll follow you/When the stars go blue. Apparently people are agreeing with me because it debuted at #39 gaining a ton of point on the charts.

6. Real Good Man

I really didn’t like this song when it came out but I grew on me. For all of you wanting to give me some crap, this is the song where you can see me in the video. It’s a lot of fun & he usually performs it with The Ride. It is a party favorite at his shows.

7. She's My Kind Of Rain

I hated this song the 1st time I heard it, literally hated it. It took a while to grow on me & now I belt it out in the shower every once & a while.

8. Grown Men Don't Cry

Good song, not a lot to say about it. This is a song that came out when I really didn’t listen to country so it never really became a favorite of mine.

9. Not A Moment Too Soon

This song is straight old school off of the 1st disc. I went to see Tim’s 1st national tour when he played at the Seymour fair when I was twelve & he played this song.

10. Watch The Wind Blow By

I’ll be straight here, I just don’t really like this song & don’t really know why. He has a lot better stuff out.

11. Over And Over featuring Nelly

Awesome, awesome song… I hated Nelly until Tim did this song with him. It’s a great song & not overdone like iw as expecting them to. After they made the video for this song…Nelly dropped one of my all-time favorite quotes, “"He's a badass, he's got game, and he's got a fine bitch!"

12. Everywhere

This is another oldy from Tim off the disc with the same name. This song has always been up there on my list. It’s about a guy who chose to leave a past love reminiscing about her…” Albuquerque/Waitin’ out a blizzard/Arizona/Dancin’ ’cross the desert/Watchin’ the sun set in/Monterey/Girl I swear just the other day you were/Down in Georgia/Pickin’ them peaches/In Carolina/Barefoot on the beaches/No matter where you choose to be/In my heart I’ll always see you/Everywhere.”

13. Beautiful People

I love this song for a lot of reasons. It is about all the good things in the world & perseverance. “Carl’s got a brand new hair cut / Must have been the girls first date / Baby Blue front quarter panel on his old dark green Chevrolet / Probably never make the pages of people magazine / But’cha oughta see them sick kid’s faces / When he shows up on Christmas Eve / Dressed like Old St. Nick that missing tooth don’t matter a bit / But there’s a lot like him around in every town.” The chorus flows beautifully, it is definitely worthy of being on a greatest hits disc.

14. Red Ragtop

This is a killer song. Unfortunately it took a lot of crap for mentioning abortion from the conservative Christian right that’s seems to be ruining America. The song is a great memory of a young love gone past…” On the back of that red rag top/She said please don’t stop../Lovin’ me.”

15. My Little Girl (from the motion picture "Flicka")

This is my favorite new song of Tim’s. It is a dad talking to his daughter & is absolutely amazing. “Beautiful baby from the outside in / chase your dreams but always know the road that will lead you home again / go on, take on this old world but to me you know you'll always be my little girl.”

16. I've Got Friends That Do

This is the other song I pirated from the site...Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr….It’s kind of a chill song, I like it a lot.
