Friday

Coming into Friday I was kind of down. This semester has unfolded completely the opposite that I had anticipated it would. Everyone had told me horror stories of the Education Block & how it would eat up every minute of my life. That hasn’t been the case at all. The work is really quite easy & I haven’t had a problem with it at all. In addition, everyone in my classes has the same goal making it really easy to get along with everyone & class a pretty good time.

Not a lot of people are aware, but just before I quit the Pig, I had been promoted to the DePere store as their lost prevention guy. I had nailed so many people at Kaukauna they actually created a position for me. I am thankful I ended up quitting before that started. It would have been a lot of fun but getting out of grocery has been one of the best things to happen to me. I miss a lot of the friends at the store I made over the years but the place just drags people down. I was a little worried at 1st I would see my friends far less but it turns out I have been in Kaukauna what seems like every other night anyway.

I guess back to the point of the blog, things are OK but I was juts a little down. This Friday was the perfect solution to my ails. Friday afternoon I got to teach for the 1st time. In the past I would have been really nervous, instead I was unbelievably excited. I am partnered with an English major that is going to put as much into it as I am.

Our job is to teach the kids about William Shakespeare’s Henry V St. Crispin’s Day Speech (Famous for originating the name for the epic Band of Brothers, “We few, we happy few, we band of brothers’). I hate Shakespeare, hate him. I don’t get it, I can’t read it, I don’t want to know it. On the other hand I love Band of Brothers, I love teaching about history, & we get to make a video. It is going to be awesome.

We started out introducing ourselves with a little activity. Then my partner broke down some Shakespeare with the kids. Next I was up. I came with a n activity comparing the 15th & 21st centuries. The kids really seemed to like it to my relief. I finished up by showing Braveheart. I was really, really happy with my 1st time out. It was an awesome time.

The fun didn’t end there. Friday night we went out to a few places & ended up out at Driessen’s. It had been a while since I had seen a lot of people. We hit a few cans of Bud Ice (Don’t ask) & just chilled. The highlight of the evening for me was Danny shooting a pellet gun at everyone. The pic below is of him pointing it at me (The entire time me telling him he was dead if he shot me. J). It was a great night out with the guys.
