CYO Ball: Update 1

Last Thursday my CYO team had our 1st official practice. I realized about 5 minutes into practice that my team was pretty damn good, however I was a little worried having only a single practice under our belt before our 1st game. It turned out I had nothing to worry about.

I went out & bought myself an all new suit for the occasion, a coach has to look the part. Cole, who unfortunately couldn’t make it to the game, found a dry-erase clipboard with a basketball court which kind of completed everything. The guys all have nice Hoop Club jerseys & all know what’s up. A couple guys were even sporting the iPod for shoot around. Needless to say, when my team took the court, we looked like a machine ready to throttle the opponent.

We started the game with a full court press, good decision. My offense centered on the fast break, rebounding & running, another good decision. My guys, on top of being really good, are really aggressive. We started the best 5 on the floor to begin the game, really wanting to make a statement. They made that statement by starting the game 25-1. with 10 minutes left in the 1st half, we pulled off our press & pretty much laid off until the game was done.

This didn’t sit real well with the guys in some ways it was a bit disappointing because 1 had aspirations of dunking in a game, while others wanted to hold the team under 10 points for a game. It would have been in bad taste to destroy those guys so I pulled off the dogs. I had the guys walk the ball up & use clock. In retrospect it would have been awesome to see what would have happened had we kept up the intensity. 5 minutes in the other team was already telling the other team to shut the hell up dropping, “I’m sure we’re worth the 20 points your down.”

In any event, final score 56-22, my guys rock.
