Taylor Swift

This summer I was sitting around, reading the Billboard Charts when I saw a new song called Tim McGraw by a new artist, Taylor Swift. If you know me, you know I have a gay-esk love for Tim McGraw & immediately hunted down the song & recorded off the internet. Not only was it a great song, it was a song that immediately hit a chord or 2 in me. After burning the song to disc, it hasn’t left my play rotation. A few weeks after discovering her music, I spotted a bulletin advertising autographed versions of Taylor’s new CD for $10. I ordered & it arrived a few weeks ago, actually autographed, & has been listened to heavily.

What impresses me about Taylor is not only that she has a great voice, but she writes the songs herself, & is only 16. She has already established herself as one of the most talented, young performers on the country charts today. Her first single entitled Tim McGraw is really starting to rip up the chart & currently sits @ 15. Overall her music is a strong mix of the current pop country feel & more traditional country sound. Here are the songs….

1. Tim McGraw

Awesome 1st, single, I love it for 15 different reasons. I am betting this will go #1 soon enough.

2. Picture to Burn

This all about f-you after a break up in a pretty funny way, much like Carrie Underwood’s Before He Cheats. “I realized you love yourself / More that you could ever love me / So go and tell your friends / That I’m obsessive and crazy, / That’s fine / I’ll tell mine/ You’re gay”

3. Teardrops on my Guitar

A change of pace song about wanting someone you can’t have. “Drew looks at me. / I fake a smile so he won't see. / What I want and need / & everything that we should be”

4. A Place in this World

Traditional country song with a rock flair about making it on your own & trying to find A Place In This World.

5. Cold As You

Cold As You is coming to terms with the fact that there are just some people who will never love you & the realization that someone isn't the person you thought they were. I am a huge fan of the song. “Oh, what a shame. / What a rainy ending given to a perfect day. / So just walk away, no use defending words that you will never say. / & now that I'm sittin' here thinkin' it through, I've never been anywhere cold as you.”

6. The Outside

Fast paced song with a self explanatory title.

7. Tied Together With a Smile

Slow little ballad about seeing the pain held inside a loved one. “Hold on, baby you're loosing it / that waters high, your jumping into it / & letting go...and nobody knows / you cry, but you don't tell anyone / that you might not be the golden one / & your tied together with a smile / but your coming undone”

8. Stay Beautiful

A simple love song.

9. Should've Said No

Killer good song I really like about cheating. “You should've said no, you should've gone home / you should've thought twice before you let it all go / you shouldn've known that word, bout what you did with her would get back to me... / & I should've been there, in the back of your mind”

10. "Mary's Song (Oh My My My)

Probably the 2nd bets song on the disc. It is about falling in love with the love of your life. “Take me back to the house in the backyard trees. You said you would beat me up, you were bigger then me. You never did, You never did. / Take me back when our world was one big lie. & I dared you to kiss me and ran when you tried. Just two kids. You & I.”

11. Our Song

Upbeat, fun song with a great rhythm. “Our song is the slamming screen door, / sneakin' out late, tapping on your window / when you're on the phone & you talk real slow / cause it's late & your mama don't know / our song is the way you laugh

the first date "man, I didn't kiss her, but I should have" / & when I got home...before I said amen / asking god if he could play it again”

12. Come In With Rain

Not actually on the disc but on her site. Awesome song, check it out on MySpace.

Taylor’s self-titled debut rates strong under any circumstances, especially so for a 1st time out. I consider Tim McGraw’s 1st greatest hits album to be the best album out there with a solid A+ rating (The teacher in me.). I’ll give Taylor’s an A-/B+, it is really that good, check it out.

I haven’t written in a while, sorry to those who check the site regularly. I have a couple more CD reviews I may put up (Keith Urban & Dierks Bentley), if not I have a huge Dustin introspective blog I have started that will be up later this week. Catch you later, peace.
